Health & Safety at OET
OET Statement of General Policy
Our policy is to take all reasonable and practicable steps to provide and maintain safe and healthy working conditions, equipment and systems of work for
all students, staff, contractors and members of the general public using or vis-
iting OET9s facilities.
Mobile Phones – Safety on stairs
OET takes your safety seriously and aims to ensure that all significant risks are
controlled to prevent accidents from occurring. You also have a responsibility
to act in a safe manner.
Research has shown that a significant number of slips and falls are caused by
people being distracted and not concentrating fully on what they are doing. It
has also been found that whilst using your mobile phone you are not able to
absorb enough information to judge steps or slopes correctly and therefore
you are much more likely to fall.
Please always refrain from using your mobile phone on staircases. Staff will
challenge any students found to be doing so and persistent offenders may be
dealt with under the disciplinary process if appropriate.
Dangerous machinery & Tools
You are encouraged to bring your own tools as these may be more familiar to
you and therefore easier and safer for you to use. We can provide tools if that
option is not available to you.
Some tools and equipment used regularly in training need particularly careful
handling, for example: drills and other power tools. Anyone at OET must be
trained before they use such equipment.
OPTIMA accepts no responsibility or liability for any injury, harm, loss, or
damage arising from the improper, negligent, or unauthorised use of tools,
equipment, or materials. All tools and equipment must be used strictly in
accordance with the training and instructions provided. It is the responsibility
of all learners to follow the safety procedures and guidance at all times as
outlined in OPTIMA’s Health and Safety Policy.
